If you’re anything like me and love Spooky Season but can’t watch a scary movie without crying, you find another way to enjoy this lovely time of the year with some chill blood suckers and no axe murderers.
Here is a list of my favorite Spooky SZN watches, for both the little and big screen.

From left to right starting at the top:
- Van Helsing (2004)
- Underworld (2003) & Underworld: Evolution (2006)
- Pan’s Labyrinth (2006)
- Hellboy (2004)
- The Addams Family (1991) and Addams Family Values (1993)
- Wednesday (2022)
- The Batman (2022)
- Practical Magic (1998)
- Hocus Pocus (1993)
- Halloweentown 1 (1998) & Halloweentown 2 (2001)
- Wendell & Wild (2002)
- Coraline (2009)
I’m no fan of horror and barely got through It (2017) without crying so this list is just a few off the top of my head that I thoroughly enjoy for this time of the year.
I genuinely don’t understand how some people can watch movies like the Saw franchise of Children of the Corn and have a regular day afterwards. They literally make my skin crawl. But, there are a few I have been miraculously able to stomach.
Here are a few honorable mentions that I only watched once and don’t ever need to watch again:
- Insidious (2010)
- The Crazies (2010)
- Malignant (2021)
- I Am Legend (2007)
and pretty much anything that has to do with zombies. I’m absolutely terrified.
And once everything isn’t scary anymore, I watch these feel good movies for Dia De Los Muertos:
Book of Life (2014) & Coco (2017).

Let me know what you think of these titles and happy haunting!
